Congress ‘mortified’ as IHK mobile ban persists
NEW DELHI: India’s ruling Congress party leadership is in a fix as Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram remains adamant on his decision to ban prepaid mobile connections in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK). The party’s unit in IHK also opposed the decision, describing the move as ‘unwarranted’. The ban has hit 3.8 million subscribers, leaving 20,000 youths jobless in the vulnerable region. Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed on Thursday said the ban was a temporary move taken due to security concerns. “We hope it will be revoked very soon,” he said. iftikhar gilani
